ASPIRAU What if you could harness the potential of your Latinx students to be University Bound. Latinx students have the opportunity to build on their cultural wealth to not only successfully graduate, but to attain a university degree and become the leaders of tomorrow. What if your school district or educational organization was recognized for being a part of revolutionizing the trajectory of the nation? Latinos are over-represented in technical careers and under-represented in the professional workforce. AspiraU seeks to change that by preparing Latinx students with the confidence and the knowledge to access and succeed at the university to earn gateway degrees. Research shows that Latinx students face the most critical barriers to completing a college education, even when they and their families aspire to University. These barriers are even greater for Dreamers, Migrant and Immigrant Latinx students. Many are first generation, lack access to proper college orientation and preparedness, mentoring and scholarships. What is AspiraU? AspiraU’s mission is to increase representation of Latinx youth at the university who are pursuing bachelor, master and professional degrees to ensure Latinos are the professionals of the future. By tapping the cultural wealth of family and perseverance, AspiraU will equip every Latinx child who aspires to create a legacy of choice, stability, and financial freedom. AspiraU creates dynamic & culturally relevant learning experiences, empowered by unity and community, where Latinx students are uplifted in achieving their dream of going to college and becoming the lawyers, doctors, professionals they aspire to be. Founded on the 5 pillars of Elevate, Awaken, Expand, Aspire and Soar, students design their vision, awaken their desire to excel, expand their knowledge, aspire to fulfill their purpose, and soar to levels they never imagined.
How is AspiraU offered? AspiraU is offered as full day, half day and stand alone sessions for students and families in Spanish and English as requested.
AspiraU Day AspiraU Day is an energetic event that ignites students' vision for their future and goals that will motivate them to aspire to reach their fullest potential. During the AspiraU experience, students will participate in relational hands-on activities and sessions that elevate their understanding of college fit and grit, scholarship and college application process, career pathways, cultural assets and family centered college planning. Culminating in a vibrant celebration that reflects the spirit of their culture, students are inspired and empowered to pursue their commitment and purpose. AspiraU Academy AspiraU Academy is a series of 2-5 workshops focusing on a specific college readiness theme and offered in a customized format. Topics can include: “Es Posible y Puedo”: College and Career Planning “Yo Quiero Dinero”: Financial Aid & Scholarships “Mi Universidad”: College Fit & University Research “Mi Cultura”: Self Efficacy & Cultural Identity “Mi Familia y La Universidad”: Family & Postsecondary Planning
AspiraU Familia AspiraU “Familia” empowers Latinx families with the skills and tools to understand the U.S education K-12 and postsecondary systems in their native language of Spanish. In the Latinx culture, parents and extended family are key players in the postsecondary planning process. Equipping them with the knowledge and access they need to support their child’s full academic potential is vital to their present and future success. Workshops can be offered individually or as a series with each having a duration of 1 hour. Topics can include: Education Rights & Protections Benchmarks and Grade Progression Accessing Programs of Rigor Graduation Requirements College and Career Postsecondary Options College Application Process Financial Aid and Scholarship Opportunities
AspiraU ME AspiraU Me is an individual college coaching program offered to provide Latinx and international students with one- on-one coaching sessions designed to support their unique postsecondary aspirations. Every child deserves college coaching to adequately prepare for college admissions. AspiraU ME affords each student the ability to prosper and leave a legacy of choice, stability, and financial freedom via access to timely and indispensable information in the postsecondary planning process. These coaching sessions are suitable for 6th-12th grade students and can be offered as a customized package for institutions or individual families. These coaching sessions can include: 8th to 9th Grade High School Transition Strategic Mentoring High School to University Map (Academic Rigor, SAT/ACT, Extracurricular Activities, GPA) Academic Success Strategies Career Pathways Assessment Service Learning & Leadership Plan College Exploration Essay Writing Seminar Financial Aid and Scholarship Labs College Application Completion College Choice
